You can also use Tracktion 7 Midi capabilites with a midi controller keyboard. Tracktion is a free daw that is easy on the budget and full of pro features. You will learn how to make music on computer. Tracktion can install on pretty much any operating system. So if you are thinking “Should i buy” another daw you may want to hold onto your money.

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 with Tracktion 6. Everything had previously been running fine, I could play my entire library of VSTi synths with Carla. I always run the Ubuntu update when it pops up, and I'm pretty sure I did that at some point in the last couple of weeks. In that time I did NOT update Tracktion. Tonight I fired up the laptop and Tracktion crashes with every VSTi I try to open in Carla. When that happens my Jack messages window goes into a never-ending stream of:
Until I tell Jack to stop. There's occasionally an XRUN in there but I can't seem to scroll back up to them after I stop Jack.
